The Year of Blankets

I cannot believe that 2018 is already ending!  It's December!

And I can't believe that I don't have any new socks crocheted.  Yes. I said socks (not blankets).  This was suppose to be the year of socks.  At most of the yarn events I went to this year, I bought SOCK yarn.  So, I have a large stash of sock yarn now.  And well, only 1 pair of socks done all year. But, as life would have it, I've been really stressed this year.  Family events, work events, personal development events have re-directed me to EASY crochet personal projects.  Projects that I can do with my hands, but leave my brain to think (or veg) on other topics.  I turned out a few dishcloths (which are really extremely small blankets).  And then the larger variety of blankets too.  9 in total!

Stress Free Corner to Corner

I found that scrap blankets made from Magic Balls with Magic Knots are addictive and wonderful.  Especially when you use lots of texture and color.  I found that block club blankets are still challenging to put together.  My yellow one for this year happened to look MUCH better when it had its border.  And simple Corner to Corners are great STRESS relief.

So, it turns out that granny squares are a GREAT stress release too!  Who knew?  Something about going round and round.  And not thinking too much about color (that is after you've stressed on the ones you'll use).  Super Bulky yarn is a great STRESS relief.  You can't see stitches.  So, just straight Double Crochets until you're all done and there isn't any left!  Play Yarn Chicken with the row.  Hah!  And of course, finishing up last year's (2017) block club blanket does wonders for feeling accomplished!

Sister In Law Corner to Corner

And gifts came up.  Luckily, I was into doing just a big block of one stitch for the baby blankets with simple borders. Or at least, I thought they were simple.  And my Sister In Law was destined to get a corner to corner (again stress release).  I used a rectangle shawl pattern that I've been wanting to do for a long while. So, that's it!  The Year of Socks didn't happen, because evidently, it was to be the Year of Blankets for me.
